A history of the Troutbeck Mile Open Water Swim …..

The inaugural Troutbeck Mile Open Water Swim Event was held in November 2012.

Course Times were set by Zimbabwe’s Olympic Golden Girl KIRSTY COVENTRY (ZW),
now The Honorable Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, with a time of
20:50 mins and by the late NICHOLAS BURNETT (ZW) with a time of 20:39
mins in the 1500M Ladies and Men’s events respectively.

The 750M Course Times were set by KERRYN GRENFELL (SA) with a time of 11:00 mins and RUSSELL GAYNOR (SA) with a time of  10:41 mins in the Ladies and Men’s events.

These Course Times remained unchanged until 2015 when SARAH HAWGOOD (ZW) stormed to victory and set a new Course Time of 20:38 mins in the Ladies 1500M event and DYLAN STEYL (ZW) set a new time of 10:23 mins in the Men’s 750M.

It would be another 3 years before any of the Course Times were re-set but at the
2018 event, our South African triathlon competitors also decided to enter the Open
Water Swim and dominated the 1500M Ladies and Men’s events.  New Course Times
were set by
SHANAE WILLIAMS (SA) with a time of 20:36 mins and VENTER
ROUSSOUW (SA) with a time of 20:35 mins respectively.

In 2020, Zimbabwe Aquatics took over the Open Water Swim as part of their Open Water Series and Championships.  A 4x500m RELAY, 3000M and 5000M distance were added to the programme.

Course Times were set in 2020 in the 3000M by ELLA ALLARDICE with a time of 44:47 mins in the Ladies category and by GARRICK DUFF with a time of 44:27 mins in the Men’s category.  JIM WILSON set a time of 1:32:52 min in the 5000M distance
