It was a fantastic weekend of triathlon for Team Zimbabwe at the recently held 2023 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup event at Diani Beach in Kenya. Zimbabwe were represented in the Elite Men’s event by Mandlenkosi Mthethwa (the youngest athlete on the start line) who placed 9th overall racing against seasoned elite athletes – a fantastic result for him finishing in a time of 01:11:31 which secured him a SILVER MEDAL in the Junior Men category.

Andie Kuipers, our elite female athlete based in the US has been training and racing in Europe these past few weeks, this hard work and dedication was deservedly rewarded with her winning the GOLD MEDAL in the Elite Women’s event finishing well ahead of the field in a time of 01:02:51 – congratulations Andie !!

Andie and Mandla also competed in the Mixed Team Relay event securing the BRONZE MEDAL – a fast and furious race and what an incredible achievement for our small team.

Congratulations also go to Pam Fulton who was appointed by World Triathlon as the Head Coach at this event, the Development Cups are a new initiative by WT to support and assist athletes from smaller African federations with a ranking of less than 250 and who are trying to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games (and beyond). Pam was involved in various intense mentoring sessions with athletes with group and individual activities and discussions covering all aspects of the event, training and preparations etc., A huge honor for Pam and for Triathlon Zimbabwe – well done Coach !!
