What a fantastic morning of run-bike-run DUATHLON we had at Donnybrook Raceway on Sunday 3rd July – thank you to EVERYONE who supported our inaugural DUATHLON NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS proudly sponsored by Evolution Insurance Company, without whom we could not have staged such a great event.
The morning started out quite windy and chilly but the sun came out, the skies stayed bright and blue and not a drop of rain in sight – great racing conditions. We had a great turn out with just over 100 athletes competing in non-championship and the championship events – from the littlest “Du-Tots” all under the age of 5, to the veteran Age Groupers – this event certainly had something for everyone. It was great to have so many NEW ATHLETES join us – welcome to all the Tsvaira cyclists and we look forward to seeing you guys and girls at all our Mount Pleasant events too !!! After the Medal Awards there were some special awards presented to Mr Obs Steffens and Mr James Soper for Services to Triathlon Zimbabwe. Triathlon Zimbabwe Honorary Colours Awards were also presented to Technical Officials who have officiated at the highest level of competition worldwide and appointed by World Triathlon to officiate at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, World Championships, World Series and World Cup events – congratulations to RICK FULTON, DAVID ELLIS, SHAUN SHELTON and CATHERINE JENNINGS who have all worked so hard, and continue to do so and wholeheartedly deserve these accolades. Cath Jennings was unfortunately unable to be with us so her award will be presented at our next event.
Thank you to all our Technical Officials, Technical Team and volunteers who got together as the No. 1 Team to stage this event and to all the service providers whose presence was crucial to the smooth running of the proceedings – thank you Safeguard Zimbabwe and the Cimas Medical Crew. Bonaqua Water kept all the athletes and officials hydrated – thank you to Schweppes Zimbabwe.
