Zimbabwe was represented by UK based Sipho Hobane Ndlovu and SA based Patrige Chimwendo at the World Duathlon Championships held in Ibiza Spain. Both athletes self-funded their travel and accommodation with assistance from their respective sponsors, with the limited budget available and financial obligations at home, Triathlon Zimbabwe were unable to assist them financially.
Sipho competed in the 30-34 AG category over the Standard distance and had a great race placing 19th overall. “All I can say is a big THANK YOU to every for the support. It pushed me to dig deeper than I have ever dug before. The race went well and I finished 19th out of a strong field of 26, with a time that is 20mins faster than my first appearance in Avilés 2021 where I finished last. The last place finish in 2021 fuelled my goal to work hard and improve. My performance in Ibiza 2023 is proof that hard work pays. It is back to the drawing board to work on my weakness and make more improvements. Thank you to my coach Yiannis Christodoulou . Thank you to my sponsors Sunwise and UK Bike Fit. Thank you to Triathlon Zimbabwe and to Federación Española de Triatlón for organising an incredible event.
Patrige participated in the 20-24 AG Duathlon Standard event and placed 5th overall, he then went on to race in the Cross-Duathlon event and was victorious in securing a BRONZE MEDAL – a magnificent achievement for this young athlete.
It goes without saying that despite being based outside our homeland, Triathlon Zimbabwe are INCREDIBLY proud of the achievements of these 2 young men and will continue to support them in every way possible.
