It has been nearly 20 years since RORY MACKIE representing Zimbabwe took the top podium position at the 2002 Alpharetta ITU World Duathlon Championships. Sadly duathlon in Zimbabwe fell off the radar for a long time but we are actively trying to resuscitate the sport and have included it on our local 2021-2022 Season Calendar of events.
There are several DUATHLON CUP events on the World Triathlon Calendar for this season and it is our hope to be able to have representation in regional events – this is an expensive undertaking and support and sponsorship is desperately needed – please make contact with us if you can help !!!
SOME GOOD NEWS THOUGH – SIPHO HOBANE NDLOVU is a Zimbabwean AG athlete based in the United Kingdom with strong roots still connected to his homeland and a member of Triathlon Zimbabwe.
Sipho has participated in many local duathlon events over the past few years and has an immeasurable passion for his sport. Recently, he made contact with us to ask advice on his chances of entering the WORLD DUATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS being held in Spain on 7th November – what did he have to do, etc.,
Unfortunately we are not in a position to assist financially so our advice was that his participation would have to be self-funded but he would have our FULL SUPPORT in every other area – so … we requested his entry through the World Triathlon Entries System in the 30-34 AG MEN EVENT – submitted letters of support for his visa application, assisted in getting his uniform ordered and now with all the entry formalities completed we are with less than 2 weeks to go until his event. There is great excitement for Sipho as he prepares for his first World Championship event representing our beloved Zimbabwe
We will keep you posted on his race – GOOD LUCK TO YOU SIPHO, YOUR ZIMBABWEAN HOMEBASED FANS ARE BEHIND YOU ALL THE WAY
