A story we would like to share …..
With 5 weeks to go to the Schweppes Water Troutbeck ATU Triathlon African Cup, our title sponsors for the event decided that they wanted to really get involved in Triathlon and actually take part in the team events.
Trials were conducted to see who was physically able to swim, bike and run and then the training began. Coach Pam Fulton had never met a group of people with so much determination, enthusiasm and commitment. They began from scratch with their training, were present at every training session that was organised, and every member gave it their all.
The teams came down to Mount Pleasant Pool for our Sunday events leading up to Troutbeck and the weekend before the event they all went up to Troutbeck to make sure everyone could safely swim in the lake, physically ride up the hills and run the challenging course which, although was short for most runners, and, like the bike course, it consisted of only up and down hills. It is a very, very challenging course and everyone succeeded.
Schweppes entered a total of 6 teams at the African Cup event – 3 Sprint teams and 3 Super-Sprint teams and at the end of the day, they walked away with 2 Bronze Medals in the team events – an OUTSTANDING achievement.
Along with Coach Pam, Triathlon Zimbabwe would like to congratulate every single athlete who took on the challenge and congratulate Schweppes for the initiative of taking up the challenge.
